This souvenir sheet includes all six of the inaugural State-Fish Art commemorative stamps surrounded by an artistic border.
The official State-Fish Art Contest stamps have been created by Wildlife Forever to raise funds for children’s aquatic education across America plus healthy fisheries conservation.
All created by children, this first release includes six full-color stamps featuring the best-of-show artwork from the first six years of competition. Chosen from among thousands of entries, these six were deemed “art gallery quality”.
The image of a northern pike for the 1999 stamp was done by Nevada Miller from North Dakota. The image of a cutthroat trout for the 2000 stamp was done by Matthew Mullen from Wyoming. The image of a largemouth bass for the 2001 stamp was done by Matt Rudolph from Indiana. The image of a cutthroat trout for the 2002 stamp was done by Matthew Mullen from Wyoming. The image of a brook trout for the 2003 stamp was done by Joshua Joint from Pennsylvania. The image of a brook trout for the 2004 stamp was done by Joshua Joint from Pennsylvania.
These first six are the beginning of an annual release that will feature talented young artists, winners of future contests. The 2005 stamp was unveiled at the Mall of America on July 2, 2005 and will be released in 2006. That same day, officials of the United States Post Office were on hand to hand-cancel each of the six newly released stamps to create commemorative cachets |
