More than 15,000 Trees Planted in Eastern Indiana
MORE THAN 15,000 TREES PLANTED IN EASTERN INDIANA

The banks of the Whitewater River in Wayne County, Indiana will receive shade and protection as the result of a reforestation project undertaken by Wildlife Forever and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. More than 15,000 tree seedlings were planted on more than 50 acres, improving habitat for numerous wildlife species. The soil protection provided by the additional trees and their root systems will also improve water quality and reduce floodwater damage in the region. Among the benefactors of this project are migratory songbirds and the Indiana bat, which is currently listed as “endangered” by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The project area is under a permanent conservation easement held by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Upland Habitat Created at Hoosier National Forest
UPLAND HABITAT CREATED IN HOOSIER NATIONAL FOREST

Wild turkey and other upland species in the Hoosier National Forest received new and improved brood habitat, thanks to Wildlife Forever and the U.S. Forest Service. Over 125 acres received edge maintenance, involving the cutting back of encroaching cedar and small trees. About 76 forest openings were maintained to remain open and provide habitat for wildlife species. Workers piled cut material to provide cover for species such as quail, rabbits, and passerine birds.

CONSERVATION EDUCATION MATERIALS TEACH
"NATURE'S CLASSROOM"

Students in Indiana have increased access to knowledge about fish, wildlife, and natural resources thanks to a donation of 100 copies of each the "Wildlife Forever CD ROM Curriculum" and the "State-Fish Art Lesson Plan" to the Arrow Head Country's Resource Conservation & Development committee. Educators who participated in the committee's "Nature's Classroom" workshop received copies of both curriculums and are currently using the materials to educate students about fish, wildlife, key ecological concepts, and the need to conserve America's abundant natural resources. The "Wildlife Forever CD ROM Curriculum" contains 14 fun lesson plans that can be incorporated into a number of different disciplines, including language arts, science, math, and social studies. The "State-Fish Art Lesson Plan" provides important lessons on fish and the need to conserve aquatic habitats. Wildlife Forever is proud to forge partnerships to educate America's youth about stewardship and America's conservation legacy.
