Wildlife Forever Helps MN Counties

Wildlife Forever Helps Counties Fight AIS

 New state legislation will direct $10 million to battle aquatic invasive species (AIS) empowering Minnesota counties to promote the national Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers! (SAH!) campaign. Through a coalition of over 2,000 partners nationally, Wildlife Forever is leading the outreach efforts to educate boaters and anglers to Clean, Drain, Dry. For nearly 10 years, surveys of recreational users show that the SAH! branded message works and can greatly assist counties in stopping the advance of invasive species.

Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers!® (SAH!) is pleased to announce "Quagga D" Davis as the June, Partner in Action. A resident of Nevada, D works tirelessly to educate State Agencies and Watershed Managers on how to stop the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS) across Western America by boat inspections and decontamination. D and her husband Michael, have been boaters on Lake Mead for over 25 years and have firsthand knowledge of how AIS can impact a community.

Invaders Targeted by National Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers! Advisory Task Force

 

A newly formed Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers!® Advisory Task Force has been appointed to help stop the spread of harmful invasive species. The eight member panel of experts selected from the boating and fishing industry to state and federal government agencies will focus on critical development of outreach to recreational users. .

Scott Cummings Educator of the Year

 Cummings, a twenty-five year veteran visual art teacher from Bellmont Middle School in Decatur, Indiana, has been named Wildlife Forever's State-Fish Art Contest 2014 Educator of the Year in recognition of his significant contribution to youth conservation education. He will receive a $500 Gift Card for art supplies from Triarco Arts & Crafts, the award's new sponsor.

This month Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers! (SAH!) is pleased to announce Phil Moy as the May Partner in Action. Phil is the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant’s Assistant Director for Outreach and Research and is very involved in monitoring the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS) in Wisconsin and throughout the Great Lakes. Phil is an active partner of the Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers! campaign and knows the benefit of using consistent outreach and education messaging.

 "Clean Boats, Clean Tournaments" training DVD helps Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers!

A new video produced by Wisconsin Sea Grant offers complementary views of exciting fishing tournament action along with the invitation to keep them aquatic-invasive-species-free. The 10- minute video provides step-by-step instructions for setting up a boat-washing station and works to educate fishing event organizers and anglers with the Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers! ® Clean Drain Dry message.
