Do you remember what fishing was like when we were kids?
The only worry was whether or not the old outboard could get us to our

favorite fishing hole. We’d catch our limit, clean them and
Mom would fry 'em up. It really was that simple

It’s sad to know those days are gone. The threat to our fishing pastime, and to the wildlife dependant on wild waters, continues and it is growing. Those threats come from a variety of sources:

·          A recent EPA Wadeable Streams Assessment concludes that 42 percent of U. S. stream miles are in poor condition and 25 percent are in just fair condition.

·          Leading pollutants in impaired waters are nitrogen and phosphorus. Excess sediment is also a big contributor. These are man-made problems which account for majority of water quality problems in our impaired waters.

·          It’s not enough to keep stocking our waters. Development is destroying valuable fish habitat needed for sustaining populations of bass, crappie and walleye.

·          Non-native, invasive species are detroying habitat and the food chain America's native species require to thrive.

Boaters . . . Anglers . . . Skiiers . . . no matter how you enjoy our wild waters, these threats are real and growing.

When appropriate, biologists use chemicals to kill invasive aquatic plants.

Artificial fish habitats help offset the destruction brought on by development.

Tilling of invasive plants in the Platte River keep them in check for another year or two.

There is also good news!

Wildlife Forever has been working for 23 years to improve America’s waters for recreation and the wildlife that depend on clean water. There have been many significant successes. Wildlife Forever members and donors have been a partner in over 168 lake and waterway projects totaling nearly $12 million all across America.

Despite these successes, much more needs to be done and your help is needed.

Your support at any level will be put right to work in help to renovate and protect America's lakes, rivers and streams. Every donor will receive a free 2011 Rivers and Lake Supporter decal. And for gifts of $25 or more, you'll receive special gold plated largemouth bass collar pin.
